Biography

Ori Ron is a cellist and composer from Israel, currently based in Amsterdam.

Ori has a wide array of repertoire, consisting of classical music, jazz and free improvised music. He performs regularly in the Netherlands and in Israel. 

Ori performed in various stages and venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Muziekgebouw, Bimhuis, Konzerthaus Vienna, Bronfman Auditorium Tel Aviv and many more.

He acquired his Bachelor degree from Buchmann Mehta School of Music and is currently studying for a Master’s degree currently in Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

As a classical cellist Ori received multiple awards and scholarships -

3rd prize in the Cello Biennale Competition 2024, 2nd prize in the Paul Ben Haim Competition,

1st prize at Buchmann Mehta strings competition, support from the AICF foundation for years.

He performs as a soloist with orchestras in Israel and in the Netherlands. Between 2021-2023 Ori was playing with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra as an academist.

In September 2023 Ori moved to Amsterdam. Since then, he joined and founded several ensembles. Among these are the

- Martin String Quartet which won the 1st prize in Gelre Kamermuziek Concours. They performed recently in Het Concertgebouw and Muziekgebouw Amsterdam, and they are scheduled to perform in Grachtenfestival in summer 2025. 

- The Rabbits collective in Amsterdam is a group that plays original music with a lot of improvisation, and they performed recently in numerous venues in Amsterdam - including the Bimhuis, Salon de Ijzerstaven and more. The group also received the encouragement prize in the Keep an Eye jazz competition in 2024.

His solo project in which he performs classical pieces, original music and improvised music shows another side of his musical identity - combining tradition with his own musical voice.

Ori has a collection of arrangements of pop jazz and Israeli songs, mostly for string ensembles.
